Ramiele Malubay ends her “American Idol” journey

ramiele malubayFilipino-American Ramiele Malubay ended her American Idol journey as she was voted off during the latest elimination of the seventh season of the No. 1 reality singing contest in America.

Ramiele was joined by Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke White at the Bottom 3.

A night before Ramiele’s elimination, the remaining nine American Idol finalists sang songs of country legend Dolly Parton, who was also their mentor this week. The diminutive Fil-Am contestant sang Dolly’s “Do I Ever Cross My Mind.”

Although she got generally favorable feedback from judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell, Ramiele’s performance paled in comparison to the other finalists—particularly David Archuleta, David Cook, Carly Smithson, and Michael Johns. Randy rated Ramiele’s performance “6.5 out of 10″ while Simon called it “forgettable.”

Ramiele, 20 years old, who is from Miramar, Florida auditioned in Miami. As part of the Top 10, she will also be part of the Idol tour after the competition. But she will not be part of “Idol Gives Back,” a charity show that hopes to solicit funds for the children of Africa and the United States, that will be staged on April 9 (April 10 in the Philippines).

Ramiele is the third Filipino-American who has reached the Top 12 of American Idol after Jasmine Trias and Camille Velasco of Season 3.
